Ratings and Tasting Notes:
(RP=92) The 2012 Steinwingert Sp_tburgunder is sourced in one plot in the Sonnenberg single vineyard. The soil is very shallow here and the vines are pretty old (30 to 40+ years), which gives small berries and grapes with concentrated flavors. The wine combines purity and elegance with a noble ripeness and intensity on the nose that already represents a premier cru level. On the palate this wine reveals a great purity, finesse and elegance, as well as a stimulating freshness and harmony. The finish is dry, fresh, concentrated and really persistent, with great tension. (AG=88) Ruby red with violet highlights. Redcurrant, plum and violet on the nose. Slightly sweet on the palate, showing a rather fine-grained texture but a touch of youthful reduction to the gamey flavors of roasted coffee and black cherry. Finishes with good vinosity, a salty element and supportive tannins.
