Ratings and Tasting Notes:
(RP=93) The 2018 Echezeaux Grand Cru is the broadest, most flamboyant wine in the range, bursting with aromas of raspberries, plums, licorice, and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, rich and enveloping, it's gourmand and fleshy, with velvety tannins, succulent acids, and an ample core of fruit. I suspect that after a decade in the cellar it will seem more classically proportioned than it does today - as has been the case with Mongeard's fine 2003s - though readers who appreciate riper styles of red Burgundy may also find it hard to resist in its youth. It's a blend of Echezeaux du Dessus and Les Treux.
(AM=90-92) More moderate wood influence frames the nicely cool and fresh essence of dark cherry, raspberry, and a plethora of spice elements. There is fine volume and slightly better density to the suave and velvety larger-scaled flavors that offer better length and balance though a bit less complexity.
