Ratings and Tasting Notes:
(AG=93) The 2017 Virginie de Valandraud is dark and rich in the glass, with a striking interplay of dense fruit and more floral, bright notes from the Cabernets in the blend. The 2017 is a gorgeous, super-expressive wine with a ton of potential. Moreover, the Virginie is a wine of real character.
(JS=92) This has very fresh aromas of blueberries and violets with notes of cedary oak and freshly tilled earth. The palate has a rich and ripe feel with ample tannin, good depth, and polish. Superfine and plush. A blend of 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Second wine of Chateau Valandraud. Drink or hold.
(RP=90-92) The 2017 Virginie de Valandraud is deep garnet-purple in color and offers up aromas of crushed blackberries, warm black cherries, and violets with scents of the cedar chest and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied with ripe, plush tannins and great freshness, it delivers a lovely core of pure black fruit and a floral finish.
(WS=91) Frankly ripe, featuring hints of blueberry and açaí berry amid the core of cassis and plum flavors, while sweet tobacco, dark licorice, and graphite notes fuel the lengthy finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2029. 5,166 cases made.
